Call for Papers and Projects

The conference will host academic research and data driven journalism projects. Please make sure to submit your abstract for your preferred track. You can download our Call for Papers below.

Academic Track

The conference is open to all contributions that use data science methods in the area of sports research. To ensure interdisciplinary knowledge exchange, we strongly encourage submissions from diverse fields (e.g., data science, econometrics, communication and media research, psychology, network analytics, information science, etc.).


Research topics may include but are not limited to:


Please make sure to state your data, methods, and results in your abstract (max. 600 words). Completed research or research in progress is admissible. Please note that manuscripts which are already accepted for publication cannot be submitted. The conference will be held in English.

Graduate students and postdocs are strongly encouraged to submit their abstracts. They are welcome to apply for the Junior-Research-Paper award.

Data Driven Journalism Track

The conference is open to all contributions that use data science and analytical methods, with a specific focus on data driven journalism in sports. Although we will focus on sports, more general contributions on research, analysis and visualization methods that are suitable for use in sports data journalism are also welcome.

Please make sure to state your data, methods, and results in your abstract (max. 600 words). Completed projects or work in progress is admissible. You are welcome to provide us with the web links (e.g., GitHub, Medium, Blog, Website, etc.) to your article/project.


The abstracts will be reviewed based on the use of data science methods and their journalistic value. Candidates are welcome to apply for the Best-Project-Award.
